Broken Pieces

Another broken piece falls to the floor. Before it is discarded, I examine it and log my findings. The piece no longer has value in and of itself. However, the history from whence it came holds a lot of meaning. Every piece that has fallen comes from the same source, yet it is distinct in shape. The same blow causes widespread damage that may take some time to assess. Each piece is directly linked to the hit sustained. Some pieces do not fall instantaneously. They hang on in futile hope to the whole. All broken pieces must fall to the floor. The impact with the floor may further break the piece. The once young hopeful heart is now almost completely in pieces. The only good thing left is the memory of vibrant years of optimism. This too is starting to break. This life’s circumstances proved to be too much for this fragile heart. Soon there will be nothing left whatsoever.
